The format of the CCP is as follows:
1. On the day of the CCP, determined by the assessing surgeon, the student is directed to assess a patient by the examining surgeon
2. The student will have a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4 hours to assess the patient (take a history and examine the patient and review any relevant investigations, progress notes or correspondence) and prepare their notes for presentation as specified on the template CCP document. During this time they are expected to do appropriate reading for related aspects of the case which are surgically relevant.
3. The student must not discuss the case in any way (i.e. clinical findings, investigation results or management) with other students or medical, nursing or allied health staff.
4. The student will then present and discuss the case with the examining surgeon (and peers, where applicable) in a 20 minute oral presentation. The surgeon will be free to ask any form of questions relevant to the case and provide appropriate feedback to the student's answers.

Some examples and descriptions were developed before the widespread availability of generative AI tools and may not reflect current approaches to assessment security. When adapting an assessment idea, staff should consider how the design supports authorship, verifies student achievement of learning outcomes, and mitigates inappropriate use of AI and other forms of academic misconduct.
