In groups, students deliver a performance piece on a topic arising from the course. Focusing on creative modalities, students develop an imaginative approach to their presentation such as a video submission, theatrical performance, role play, art exhibition, movie pitch etc. This is accompanied by an individual 500 word critical reflection.

As a class students are set a collaborative task to produce a creative item relevant to their discipline (e.g. in MUSC3020, an original Album recorded and produced by students) and attend weekly laboratory sessions focused on relevant skill acquisition. This is scaffolded with written reflections where students outline their contribution.

As part of a progressive series of seminars, this assessment item acts as the culminating piece for each seminar. The default submission format is a written piece lodged via Turn-It-In of between 750-1500 words - with greater weight allocated to the assessment items as the seminars progress. Because of the nature of the cohort (practising sport coaches) and the level of the program (post-graduate study), students are offered a degree of choice within each seminar (e.g. topic focus and submission format). Students are supported through this process through the seminar structure of reading week, discussion week, assessment week).

Informed by an active learning pedagogy, this technique sees students co-create an online wiki to which contributions are individually marked. Students work collegiately to prosecute an overall argument that responds to a set question, but receive marks for the quality of their individual input; which addresses potential discrepancies in contribution.

Students complete a 3 hour in-class simulation where a hypothetical scenario occurs (in POLS7255, a foreign policy negotiation). Students form groups representing key stakeholders and must accurately represent their interests. Students prepare for the simulation (scheduled towards the end of semester) in advance and are assessed on preparation and participation.

Following a Team-Based Learning (TBL) pedagogy, students are placed into teams of 6-9, and act as the Executive of an Organisation. Confronted by changes in the organisation's internal and external environments, they apply theory from key frameworks in strategic management theory to make strategic decisions on behalf of their organisation.

Collectively worth 10%, this assessment replaces tutorial participation marks. It encourages collaborative reflexivity through weekly electronic group journals and peer assessment. In small groups students craft 200-300 word responses to experiential questions, uploading to Blackboard. Suited to introductory/elective courses, this technique focuses on applying foundational disciplinary knowledge to personal experience.

As a class, students participate in a real-world translation project which may be published subject to the editor's and author's approval. Students are placed in teams and work collaboratively to translate an allocated portion of the text.

Developed as an authentic assessment that simulates analytical skills as used in vocational and academic settings, this task has students analyse a real or created assemblage - a group of disciplinary-relevant artefacts, (e.g. in Archaeology, cultural objects, tools or skeletal remains from a specific site) to produce a written report.
