Data Analytics Portfolio
This assessment introduces students to the theories, methodologies, and technologies related to the collection, modelling and analysis of digital social data. Students are required to operate a variety of data curation and analysis software systems to produce a dataset, and then perform both qualitative and quantitative analyses of these datasets.
Team or Group based
Assemblage-Based Project Report
Developed as an authentic assessment that simulates analytical skills as used in vocational and academic settings, this task has students analyse a real or created assemblage - a group of disciplinary-relevant artefacts, (e.g. in Archaeology, cultural objects, tools or skeletal remains from a specific site) to produce a written report.
Team or Group based
Multimodal Design Project
This practice-led technique integrates design/production methods to execute a multifaceted project. The piece can take any form as process is emphasised over output. The technique comprises several scaffolded assessments: an oral pitch/proposal (20%); workbook (10%); portfolio (prototype + report) (50%); and reflection (20%).
Team or Group based
Personalised Multimedia Portfolio
Students complete an intensive field project (7-10 days) to produce a professional portfolio of authentic digital and/or written works. Fieldwork involves a course trip to an overseas location or high profile domestic event (e.g. 2014 G20 Summit). Students research and prepare proposals/pitches prior to fieldwork in consultation with course coordinator/s.
Assessment method
Genre Writing with Peer-review Report
In addition to producing their own piece of creative or academic writing, students work in pairs to provide a detailed feedback report of their partner's draft written assessment. Students are assessed on both the final written piece and on the report they produce for their student partners.
Team or Group based
Group Translation Exercise
As a class, students participate in a real-world translation project which may be published subject to the editor's and author's approval. Students are placed in teams and work collaboratively to translate an allocated portion of the text.
Team or Group based, Sequence
Group Performance Research Project (with individual critical reflection)
In groups, students deliver a performance piece on a topic arising from the course. Focusing on creative modalities, students develop an imaginative approach to their presentation such as a video submission, theatrical performance, role play, art exhibition, movie pitch etc. This is accompanied by an individual 500 word critical reflection.
Team or Group based, Sequence
Extended Simulation Exercise
This task sees students participate in a four week Simulation Role Play in an area specific to their discipline of study. Students work in groups to assume the role of specific stakeholders/actors within the simulation. Rather than the simulation itself, students are assessed on an Operation Plan and a Final Report.
Assessment method
Grant Application
Informed by an embodied pedagogy, this task sees students assume disciplinary stakeholder roles attempting to secure project funds through a grant application to a specific organisation. Students design a project and craft a grant application consistent with the funder's actual requirements and formatting.
Assessment method
Individual Translation Exercise
This task sees students produce a language translation from a 500-700 word source text, accompanied by a commentary (also 500-700 words) in either English or the language of study. The commentary must provide full bibliographic information and a general overview of the source text including its genre and stylistic construction.
